Post 16 Admission

 

Entry Criteria

For entry into our College Sixth Form in September 2021 the following criteria applies:

Academic

Students must have demonstrated by their preparation for GCSE their ability and interest in working towards pleasing A Level grades. Student’s reports, comments on SIMS and the compliance with the demands of each subject in terms of controlled assessment and successfully meeting deadlines.

Attendance

Students must have an attendance rate in Year 12 of at least 95% (unless there are mitigating circumstances which will be discussed at your interview in June).

Behaviour

Behaviour must have complied with College rules especially with regards to punctuality; attendance; adherence to uniform regulations; respect for staff, fellow pupils and school property. Consideration of a student’s behaviour will take account of his/her achievement and behaviour profiles as recorded on SIMS, including the number of detentions and suspensions.

The Principal reserves the right to review applications of individual students who do not meet the criteria outlined.

Three Tier Approach

Band 1 7 GCSE grades A* - C including English & Maths and at least 3 other GCSE (non- equivalence) subjects.

Students qualifying for entry to Band 1 will be able to choose from the full range of A-Level subjects as long as they meet the subject specific requirements.

Band 2 5 GCSE grades A* - C or equivalent; including at least a grade C in either English or Maths + a grade D in the other subject.

Students qualifying for entry to Band 2 will have a restricted choice of A Level subjects. They will be required to re-sit their Maths or English GCSE if a Grade C was not achieved.

Band 3 - 5 GCSE grades A* - C or equivalences. (A grade D in English and Maths are required, A Grade C in one and an E in the other would be accepted as an alternative)

Students qualifying for entry to Band 3 will have a prescribed choice of OCN Level 3 Employability & Professional Development Skills and a Level 3 course from SERC (Hospitality, Childcare or Production Arts).

Students will also be required to re-sit their Maths and/or English GCSEs if required.
